Biography
Originally from a family of fishermen, Serge Cormier has always lived in the riding of Acadie–Bathurst. First elected on October 19, 2015, he quickly took on significant responsibilities within the federal government. From 2015 to 2019, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to several ministers, including those of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, as well as National Defence.
Re-elected for a second term on October 21, 2019, and a third on September 20, 2021, he continues to serve his constituents with dedication and integrity. He is a member of the Standing Committees on Fisheries and Oceans and on Canada-China Relations, in addition to actively participating in several interparliamentary associations.
In 2023, he introduced a bill in the House of Commons to establish a national framework for the creation of a school meal program. His goal: to ensure that no child starts their school day hungry and that all have access to healthy food. This program was launched in May 2024.
Professionally, Serge acquired a small business to finance his studies. He then held key positions within the Government of New Brunswick, notably as Chief of Staff in the Departments of Human Resources, Wellness, Culture and Sport, as well as Tourism and Francophonie.
